The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has officially launched the CGMA Emerging Leaders Competition 2020. This annual business competition encourages university students to immerse themselves in the modern business world, showcase their talent, and better understand what skills they need to build a successful career in business and finance.
The 2020 edition of the CGMA Emerging Leaders Competition is taking place in Europe for the very first time. Almost 30 universities from 10 countries (Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Russia), and over 100 teams, are taking part in this year’s competition.
The CGMA Emerging Leaders Competition 2020 is organised in partnership with UBS as a Strategic Partner and Kaplan as a Partner, which share CIMA’s vision of developing and nurturing young talent around the world. Media partners supporting the competition include Kariera w Finansach web portal and Eurostudent magazine.
Jakub Bejnarowicz, Regional Director for Europe at CIMA, said: “Evidence shows that top employers do not recruit people only based on their formal qualifications and technical skills. They now also look for the skills and competencies such as critical thinking, decision-making, flexibility or commercial awareness. In short, skills that will add long-term value to their organisation.
We want students to find out what it feels like to have the fate of a global company hanging by the stroke of their signature. By taking part in the competition they get a taste of what it means to make business decisions that swing fortunes by the millions – getting used to the processes, answering questions, and coming up with viable business strategies – to see it all for themselves.”
The competition is divided into three rounds and also includes a quiz:
- First round: 7-11 September 2020
- CIMA Quiz: 18 September 2020
- Second round: First week of October 2020
- Final round: End of October or early November 2020
The final round will be held live in Warsaw, Poland, amongst the top three Emerging Leaders Teams. One team will be announced the CGMA Emerging Leaders Champion. Prizes for the winning teams will be awarded at various stages of the competition. They include internships and job offers, participation certificates, access to online courses and electronic gadgets of a total value of USD 5000.
